Apheya Animal Nutrition based in County Durham provides advice, training and technical services in animal nutrition to farmers, feed and food businesses and their associated support services across with UK & and abroad and as with so many businesses this year have adapted their support to the farming and feed industry.

Like many businesses at this time, Apheya took the opportunity to explore how they could deliver their services online and contacted Elm Marketing Solutions to discuss the feasibility of creating an e-training course that could be accessed online by customers anywhere in the world.

Apheya approached North East Business Support Fund (NBSL) to see if their project would qualify for funding and was thrilled to be accepted understanding that this new service could provide a sustainable future for the business. Apheya accessed £2,500 of grant support from business support agency NBSL via the North East Business Support Fund – part financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Apheya Managing Director, Victoria Phillips, said “it was important that our customers could have access to our training course at a time that suited them and was able to complete a test at the end.”

With the help of Elm Marketing Solutions and NBSL, it took six weeks of planning, recording videos and trials before their new online Feed Hygiene Course was launched in July 2020.

Following a successful test period, a new online course was launched enabling attendees to undertake sessions at a time that suited them – finishing with an examination to ensure knowledge and understanding – being submitted and signed off by to the Apheya team for certification.

Since the launch over 30 courses have now been attended and graded following the automated end of course exam. This added service improvement now allows Apheya to offer one of their most popular training courses to customers worldwide without any travel limitations and the team are keen to develop further online courses in this successful format in the future.

John Atkinson, NBSL Account Manager and business advisor said “We are delighted that we have been able to support Apheya’s team to develop this online training package. The North East Business Support Fund has been able to help so many businesses update and revise their ways of working through digital development and it’s great to hear that so many clients have been able to receive advice and training in animal nutrition.”
